Since the kids we’re going to ride the bus, we left the house a few minutes early in case it arrived sooner due to less people riding.
It was really slippery and the kids were impressed that they could walk on the snowy areas without breaking through.
One neighbor had shoveled/plowed their driveway before the freezing rain however the township had not come by yet to care for the road so their driveway and part of the road by it was a sheet of ice.
Unfortunately, when the bus came, Pudge slipped and fell face first when walking through the area. When he stood up, the bottom of his face (mouth, chin, etc.) was covered in blood and I couldn’t tell where it was coming from at first. I sent the other two on the bus and walked Pudge and Cuatro back home to clean it up and figure out if it was an issue or if he’d just be late for school. Once I got a better look and we dabbed it with a wet paper towel, I could see that his chin had a deep gouge and could see the subcutaneous later was also ripped. So I called Papa to tell him that we were going to the hospital (he was able to come which was a blessing so Cuatro didn’t have to be there also) , and the school to notify them while having Pudge use gauze to stop the bleeding.
After cleaning his face and locating the wound (his coat was covered in blood so it was taken off before this picure)
Papa came home while we were still getting ready and we all headed to the ER. Papa took Pudge and it was determined that he would need stitches. He was given a tablet to play with to distract him and then they gave him 3 doses of numbing gel before the stitches. He was nervous but very brave!
They also have him a Star Wars case filled with activities to keep.
He also was given an ice cream cone so the bandage needed to be changed almost immediately.
He needs to follow up next week with his doctor to have them check the stitches and make sure that it’s healing correctly.
